That car is magnificent. Understated luxury and athleticism. Arguably one of the top 3 best looking cars Acura has ever made. Pictures don't do it justice.

Yeah but why would you pay an extra $10-15k for a fancy Civic?
![]() 11/21/2014 at 09:26 |

I've always been a fan of it since Acura started releasing images, while the rest of Jalopnik is up in arms. Its just a shame that there's no more manual

nibby, that's the ILX. the TLX is the big new one

I have to say, I really don't like the brushed-aluminium plastic piece they put in all their grills. The last TL looked much better imo.
![]() 11/21/2014 at 09:27 |

I know. The ILX is a fancy Civic. The TLX is a fancy Accord.

I haven't seen one in person yet. I'll reserve my judgement until then because in pictures the proportions seem slightly off around the rear haunches.

I've seen 3-4. They do look great.

"Luxury"

Except it's not...

Test drove one a few weeks back (i4 Model), and seriously disappointed. It's the Camry of the class.

Wait, I just reread the headline xD
The T in TLX kinda looked like an I to me. Sorry.

I hold out hope that they're saving the manual for a possible Type-S/R in the future.
And don't you know, if it's not a Miata or a Bimmer, Jalopnik hates it...

Acura's entire lineup has been so frigging ugly for the last 10 years, you are having some sort of Stockholm syndrome reaction and saying an otherwise boring design is somehow beautiful. Regardless, kudos to the design team for putting the front bumper on the front!
![]() 11/21/2014 at 09:50 |

To each their own. I think the current iteration of the shield looks really good.
![]() 11/21/2014 at 09:51 |

Its so much better in person. It has an actual trunk, which doesn't come across in the 3/4 pictures Acura keeps showing.
![]() 11/21/2014 at 09:59 |
|
Are you saying its not?
![]() 11/21/2014 at 10:03 |
|
How so? It has all the specs it would need to hang with the others in the class. And I've heard the drive is quite good.
![]() 11/21/2014 at 10:03 |

No worries, but the TLX is still more than just a fancy Accord...
![]() 11/21/2014 at 10:05 |

I mean if your sheep mentality of "Acura uglyz, beak lawl" dictates that you think so, then go right ahead :)
![]() 11/21/2014 at 10:08 |

Yo dog, your accord is showing.
Seriously take the logos off and I'd be hard pressed to tell you which one is more expensive. But I guess the Acura has "wood", so its got that going for it?
![]() 11/21/2014 at 10:13 |

If Mercedes and BMW had lower market brands, they'd have the same issue. The only reason that they seem higher in that regard is that there's nothing to compare with. Look at Audi, they have the same issue with VW.

While I'm not in love with the A3 because its Golf based, they do a lot better job at hiding its roots.
![]() 11/21/2014 at 10:26 |

Ahh, so any luxury car that has a platform or engine in common with a plebian mainstream model is blasphemy. Well, I guess all I can say is that in person, when you're sitting in the cars, it shows.
![]() 11/21/2014 at 10:28 |

I have a feeling you're right. It's a known fact that Acura is losing sales and needs a bit of pizzazz in their lineup. A hopped up Type-S / Type-R would do the trick
![]() 11/21/2014 at 10:36 |

^ Continues to ignore that for $30k the Acura is outclassed.

I really dislike this red color wood in cars. I actually am not a fan of any shiny wood and the matte "Open Pore" Ash wood in the new C Class and the non- lacquered wood in the i3 look best.
Shiny wood always reminds me of 90s cars and not the good kind, just seems cheap and old looking.
![]() 11/21/2014 at 11:06 |

Agreed on all counts. Reminds me of the "wood" in a ZJ I had, man was that terrible. #Luxury

My car was going to be optioned with it "burl walnut" when I realized that I told them to please find me one with brushed aluminum instead.
It's not that it looks so horrible but definitely not my style:

The TSX is the fancy Euro Spec Accord
![]() 11/21/2014 at 11:41 |

I have yet to see one in person, but based on pictures alone I for one like it.
I also like the new ILX. 10/10 would but over a Verano/A3/CLugly.
I don't understand how other companies get excused for dressing up lower-spec models, but Acura always does. I guess it's just "in" to hate Acura.
![]() 11/21/2014 at 12:06 |

I'm thinking when we do end up seeing the Civic R engine, it will be in an ILX-R, which I'm all for.
![]() 11/21/2014 at 12:07 |

How so? It's literally just a different layout of the same options. Your bias is showing sir. And neither of those cars are the 30k versions of themselves...
![]() 11/21/2014 at 12:09 |
|
Yeah and the TLX is a fancy USA Accord.
![]() 11/21/2014 at 12:10 |
|
It is a bit more but still at the core it is an Accord. :)
![]() 11/21/2014 at 12:20 |

Just the floorpan. And that floorpan us part of a car that has won 29 C&D top 10 awards...
![]() 11/21/2014 at 12:42 |
|
I'll save my money with the Accord.
![]() 11/21/2014 at 12:49 |

Granted I don't know any of the trims used for the photos, including the Acura's, but they all start at about the same price (CLA & 320i).
But there is more to luxury then just content, ask the K900.
![]() 11/21/2014 at 13:02 |

Good call, german cars need help looking not so dark on the inside too. The silver pops.
![]() 11/21/2014 at 13:12 |
|
The silver definitely compliments the interior way better as there are a number of silver accents. Now if it was that open pore ash wood that'd be a different story:
I'd get this in a heartbeat. As long as it's real wood and not some wood-like sticker over a piece of plastic. The 2015 C Class I sat in had this and it felt really nice.
![]() 11/21/2014 at 16:40 |
|
That's the other thing though, the CLA competes with the ILX, not the TLX. And thethe TLX-equivilant C-Class starts at $40k. And how about the 320i's manual seats. Nothing screams quality like manual seats.
![]() 11/21/2014 at 17:58 |
|
If you all care about is content, then you can get all that in the 200 or Charger for the same price.
(no pics yet of the V6, or RT yet with leather, but this ^ ... except with leather).
My point is, where do you draw the line? There is more to luxury then content, and I draw the line above the Acura.

Well, this was when I was going to replace my current car because I was pissed at maintenence. I just came from the BMW Dealer after testing the 320 Manual to look at one of these.
- It was slow (granted, 4-Cylinder)
- It was loud and wheezy
- The interior was so-so. I don't want wood trim - it's standard. The only thing cool was the two screen.
- It felt disengaged (granted, I was just driving a manual no-frills 3-Series)
It's nice to look at and I'm sure it'll be as reliable as the tides. It's packed with technology, too. However, everything else is a complete snooze-fest.
